THING 23

WooHoo!!!! I am finished. Didn't think I was going to make it, but thanks to help from my co-workers, I did. I orginally signed up to do this just to have a chance to win the Wii. Well, I couldn't wait any longer so I purchased the Wii about a month ago. And no Fred, if I win the Wii, I am not selling it on Ebay. Of course, I wouldn't mind winning one of the other prizes.

Before starting the 23 things, I knew there were alot of things that I wasn't aware was out there, but I am surprised by how much. This adventure has definitely opened my eyes. I definitely plan on using most of this in the future whether it be at home or at work (probably more at home). Won't be using Rollyo, ha!ha!ha!

I would definitely encourage people to take the time to fully explore all of these different sites, and I would definitely participate if it was offered again, but can you please have pogo.com as one of the assignments. LOL!!!!

Thank you Ellen and Jim for putting this together. It was a great experience, and you guys help me stay motivated even though it took me to the last day to get it finish. Anyway, Thank You!!!!!!

Week 9 Thing 22

Well I guess we are all familiar with the downloadable books. Since we got rid of NetLibrary, I explored Overdrive. I was surprised by how many titles they offer. Again once I get my I-pod, I MAY download some, but probably not. I am more of a book person than an audio. I don't even listen to books on CD. I lose focus too much. I am the type of person that has to have some type of background noise, and I would just phase it out as white noise, and the next thing you know, I missed 4 chapters. With a book, I am forced to focus. Of course on of these days, I may be forced to do this.

Week 9 Thing 21

Now that I know where to find the podcasts, I will be sure to download some once I get an I-pod which I put a bug in Santa's ear, so hopefully it wont be too long. Of course, I am sure that I will use it more for music. Of course I know that I can always sit in front of my computer and listen to it, its always nice to have it be portable.

Week 9 Thing 20

After having Fred yell at me for being on YouTube, and getting assistance from a co-worker, which I am encouraged to do, here is my video.

Week 8, Thing 19

Gee I feel like a student craming for a test trying to get all these things completed so that I can be eligible for the prizes. Anyway, like one I my friends said in her blog, I was pleased to see sites that I was familiar with, but I only know those sites because of the 23 things. I was a little disappointed that pogo.com didn't receive an award in the games department, but this site gave me more game sites to explore at home. I had heard about craigslist.com from a co-worker, but now I actually had a chance to explore it. I will definitely do more with these sites from home.

Week 8 Thing 18

OMIGOD!!! These sites are awesome. Why couldn't we have done the 23 things last year? I only reason I bought a new computer was so that I could have Word and Excel. Had I know about these sites, I could've saved some money. Ok, let's get real, I still would have bought the new computer, but these sites are neat and convenient. I will use this when I am using someone else's computer and forgot my zip drive.

Sandbox Wiki

Ok, I added an entry, but I have no idea if I did it correctly. Something tells me that I didn't, but at least I tried. That counts for something, right?

Okay, I just went back and figured out what I did wrong so now I can say that I correctly added an entry.....its not much of an entry, but I added one.

Week7, Thing 16

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_mcgraw
Need I say more? Okay, I guess I have to. I like how there are different tags and links. You could be searching for everything. My daughter has to do a report on dolphins, and I think I just found the site to use. Thanks!!!!! :)

Week 6, Thing 15

I think that Away from the "Icebergs" was especially relevant. We need to be responsive to the changing expectations of the customers we serve. Whether its changing where something is shelved to help a customer locate it easily or if its us keeping up with the times and going more digital for online access for the customers which may be more convenient for some. If we don't change, we could possibly be left behind. Now we just need to get that bandwith upgraded so that we can keep up.

Week 6 Thing 14

Ok, I could get into trouble with this website. I was looking at the parenting blogs, and there was one about writing Thank You notes. OMIGOD!!!! I am not going to voice my opinion, but do you send Thank You Notes for everything, or even better, do you have you 6 or 7 year sit down and write thank you notes for their gifts. I have NEVER written a thank you note for a Christmas gift unless I didn't personally receive it from the sender. That's just a common courtesy just to let the send know you received it. Anyway, I could go on and on, and one day when I have more time, I will definitely go back to this site, and I might even post a few blogs or comments.

Week 6, Thing 13

Well, its a good thing that I bought the Wii, because I very seriously doubt if I am going to be able to complete all 23 Things by the end of today. Anyway, Del.icio.us is very interesting. I started exploring it last week, and today while I was looking at an article on baltimoresun.com, I noticed that there was a button for del.icio.us with the option to tag the article. Pretty cool. I made me remember to do this blog.

Rollyo

I have to agree with some of the other posts and say that I wasn't that impressed with this feature. Maybe I need more time with it, but my first reaction is blah!!!!! I guess technically I am now more than half way finished my 23 Things. Even though I no longer want the Wii (I already purchased one), I am still determined to finish by the end of this week so that I am still eligible for the other prizes. And who knows, if I win the Wii, I'm sure I can find something to do with it.

Library Thing

http://www.librarything.com/catalog.php?view=karmetta&shelf=list&sort=title

Here's the link to my catalog. I am going to set this up at home so that I can keep track of the books I have read. Especially the series.

Week 5, Thing 10

While the cats away, the mouse will play. LOL!!!! Since the boss is in Denver, I decided to take some time and try to get some more "things" finished. I played around with the online image generator, but I am having trouble posting it to my blog. So then I checked some other participants blog, and didn't see any on theirs either. So much for that advice. LOL!!!!

Here I am

Well, I explored MERLIN and made my avatar. I don't think it looks like me at all, but it was fun experimenting with all the different hairstyles and stuff. I definitely had more fun with this than MERLIN. I had some experience with MERLIN from the Staff Development committee. Plus I supervised someone that had to use MERLIN for a workgroup. Woohoo!!! I am onto Week 5 where I get to really PLAY!!!!! Yea Me!!!!!

Week 4 RSS

I finally got a chance to look at thing #8. I set up my blogline account but I can't say that I actually understand all of it. I am going to have to go to all of my favorite sites and see if I can subscribe to their RSS. So far I registered Pogo.com. Those of you that know me, know that I am addicted to Pogo and the badges. I am actually a little behind with my badges, but I have recruited my mom to help me complete the weekly challenges. With RSS I will be able to see what the weekly challenges are without having to go to the actual website. If only the Webkinz site had RSS and could notify me when Shelby's pets needed to be fed. LOL!!!! Maybe sometime in the future. Well I am off to explore MERLIN. Wish me luck.

Trying something out

I was trying to figure out how to make the picture bigger. And I did.

This is Shelby at Busch Gardens. If only it were legal to do this to our kids for not cleaning their room. Shelby will be here permanently.

Flickr

Well, I finally finished "playing" with Flickr, and I actually uploaded some photos. Woohoo!!!!! Can I have the Wii now? LOL!!!!! I did see some interesting photos of different peoples scrapbooks, and I might have to "scraplift" some of the ideas. That's if I ever find time to do some scrapbooking. Between my boss keeping me busy :) , and my husband's hobby (that's a pic of his race car), I don't have any time for myself. I told hubby that if he wants me to come to the track with him, he needs to create some kind of space there for me to scrapbook. Of course, when I win the Wii, I will always have time to play that. And then I can do scrapbook of the family playing. There's an idea.

Here I go again

Well, I have completed assignments 1-4. I have been "playing" around with Flickr, but still haven't mastered it. I'm not 100% sure I understand why anyone would want to post a picture on Flickr for everyone to see. I guess I just need to keep "playing" until I have a full understanding of it. I just wanted to post another blog so that I can still be in the running for the Wii. After all, I WANT THE Wii.

First Blog

Well, here is my first blog. I am excited about doing the library 2.0, mostly because of the prizes, LOL!!!!, but also because I am interested in learning new technologies. I never considered myself to be a technological genius, but I never considered myself to be technologically ignorant either. However, looking at the list of things that we have to do.....I haven't heard of most of them, so I guess I'm not as updated I as originally thought. So I am hoping that by the end of this, I will understand the jargon that surrounds me everyday. I am also hoping to get an Ipod and to be actually be able to use it.

Ok, apparently I was supposed to add something in my blog about the 7 1/2 habits of learning. Here goes nothing: The easiest for me to do is going to be habit #7 1/2 Play. Who doesn't like to play? The hardest for me is going to be habit #5 Create Your Own Learning Toolbox, mostly because I don't have a clue where to begin on this one. Hopefully all these new things that I am going to learn will help me. Remind me to let you know at the end of this, and ask me how much Playing I did.
